Finally...A Job

I applied to two positions with Target for the store they are opening in my area. A week or so later, I received an invitation to record video responses to questions as a sort of video interview. It would not be a live video, allowing candidates to re-record responses as needed. I thought maybe I could handle a non-live video call, but my anxiety again took over, making me unable to complete the "interview." I then updated my job spreadsheet to a "no" for Target, another job I was unable to get because of my mental struggles.

They had provided instructions for those who could not do video sessions, directing them to call the store to which they applied. In my case, there is no store, so there was nothing I could do. I figured my best chance was to wait until the store opened and apply again...whenever that would be. Meanwhile, I continued applying to anything else I could do in the area. Different day, same stuff.

Last week I received an email inviting me to open interviews with Target at a local hotel. I had thought they passed on my application because of the video interview, but, with a new store, they were still searching to fill their vacant positions.

On Saturday, I went to the hotel and had an interview with one of the sales leaders. She was a pleasant person, and we talked about the various aspects of retail. I applied to both tech sales and guest services since neither would require walking all over the store. I explained to her about my physical limitations and eventually left there with a job in "Guest Services."

While it is not a job I would typically want, it is something that will provide a steady income. Our financial situation has been increasingly worrying since month two of my unemployment. When I left my job at Michaels, I never thought I would struggle so much to find work. Though I should be eligible for unemployment due to why I left, they have yet to make a decision, so we have been surviving on credit cards and whatever little income my startup business makes.

I am not sure when I will start working with Target. The store is scheduled to open in November, but I will likely be part of the team setting up the store. It's been years since I helped do that, working to set up a Halloween Adventure store in my twenties. I only hope my physical limitations do not restrict me from starting early because we really need that paycheck.
